Research notes
Jarrod Murphy (born 4 September 1973, Cardiff, Wales) studied Aeronautical Engineering at Imperial College London, originally intending to enter the aerospace industry before switching to F1 during his studies. He joined Benetton as a Stress Analyst in 1996, later moving into CFD and working his way up to Head of CFD at the Enstone base (Renault/Lotus). He joined Mercedes as Chief Aerodynamicist in 2013, was promoted to Head of Aerodynamics in 2017, and was promoted again to Aerodynamics Director in July 2021, succeeding Mike Elliott, who moved up to Technical Director. Note: Wikipedia's main text states he started in 1996 and became Renault's Head of CFD from 2006, which differs slightly in the early years from the page's structured timeline (Head of CFD Applications at Renault, 2002-2006);
this entry follows the structured timeline for the early years, and no more detailed education dates or degree classification beyond LinkedIn are available.
