Research notes
Simone Resta (born 1970 in Imola, Italy) earned a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bologna in 1995 and started his career at Minardi's R&D department in 1998. He joined Ferrari in 2001 and rose through the ranks: Senior Design Engineer (2001) -> Head of R&D (2006) -> Deputy Chief Design Officer (2012) -> Chief Designer (2014, appointed by Marchionne). He moved briefly to Alfa Romeo/Sauber as Technical Director in 2018, returned to Ferrari in 2019 as Head of Chassis Engineering, and was seconded to the Haas team as Technical Director from 2021 to 2024. He joined Mercedes in 2024, initially as Director of Strategic Development and Deputy Technical Director, and was promoted to Vice Technical Director in January 2025, working alongside his old colleague James Allison. Note: this task's title lists his role as "Technical Director (Engineering)", but according to the 2025 official F1 podcast, motorsport.com and multiple other media outlets, his publicly stated title is Deputy/Vice Technical Director rather than full Technical Director;
