David Worner was born in 1962 (Downend, near Bristol), and spent his early career doing stress and design engineering at Rolls-Royce Aerospace for many years. He entered F1 in 1997 as a Design Engineer, joining Arrows, moved to Jaguar in 2003, and joined Red Bull in 2004 as Senior Suspension Designer. He was promoted to Head of Suspension and Driver Controls in 2007, and became Deputy Chief Designer in 2014, responsible for joint projects between Red Bull and Toro Rosso. He joined Williams in 2020 as Chief Designer, later being promoted to Design Director and serving as Acting Technical Director at one point, before moving to Engineering Director in 2024 as part of the restructuring that brought in Matt Harman.
