Research notes and caveats

Enriched and corrected via his new Wikipedia article (John Howard (automotive engineer)) plus his public LinkedIn and the Melbourne 2026 grid photo caption ('John Howard (GBR)'). British. Education now cross-confirmed: BSc Mechanical Engineering, UC Irvine (2008) and MSc Motorsport Engineering, Oxford Brookes (2010). Joined the Enstone team in 2010 as a Mechanical Design Engineer (Lotus era), became Engineering Coordinator (trackside) in 2015 (Renault era), then moved into performance engineering: PE to Carlos Sainz (2018) and Daniel Ricciardo (2019-2020) [CORRECTION vs earlier record, which said Hulkenberg], senior PE to Fernando Alonso (2021-2022) and Pierre Gasly (2023). Stepped up to Race Engineer for Gasly in January 2024, and engineered rookie Jack Doohan for the opening rounds of 2025 before departing. Joined Cadillac for 2026 as Bottas's race engineer. f1_debut_year 2010; years_to_race_engineer = 14 (2010 -> 2024). Route motorsport-msc-direct (UC Irvine BSc + Oxford Brookes MSc straight into F1, no junior single-seaters). Nationality British now confirmed; confidence raised medium -> high. Born c.1986 (approx, from UC Irvine BSc 2008).
