Research notes
Charlotte Phelps is MP Motorsport's race engineer in F1 Academy, working with driver Emely de Heus;
this is her second season with the team, during which they achieved the milestone of a race win. She studied Electronic Engineering (with a focus on Music Technology Systems) at the University of York, and it was the unique signal-processing skills gained from music technology that made her stand out when applying to Mercedes. She joined Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains during her degree's placement year, then progressed from graduate engineer to strategy engineer after graduating (roughly 2017–2021), during which time the team won six world championships. She then spent about two years with the W Series (as data and systems engineer, then lead systems and performance engineer, roughly 2021–2022), before joining MP Motorsport as race engineer in early 2023. Her LinkedIn headline reads 'Race Engineer - MP Motorsport', consistent with the article;
her résumé, including Mercedes (graduate engineer to strategy engineer), two years at W Series, and subsequently joining MP Motorsport, matches the timeline across multiple sources.
